Introduction

From 1919 to 1939 chemical warfare and chemical weapons were a hot topic in political circles and international diplomacy as well as popular culture in the western world. Particularly in the United States, Great Britain, France, and Germany, the threat of chemical weapons became a prominent subject of international relations.  This exhibit explores the debate that occurred between the world wars over the proper role of chemical weapons in warfare.
